The Mountains

The Glasshouse Mountains are a series of steep-sided volcanic plugs that rise up from the surrounding landscape. There are eleven mountains in the range, with the highest being Mount Beerwah at 556 metres. The scenery here is truly spectacular, with breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Things to Do

There are a range of activities to enjoy in the Glasshouse Mountains, including:

  • Hiking: There are a number of hiking trails throughout the mountains that vary in length and difficulty. Some of the most popular include the Mount Ngungun Summit Walk and the Beerburrum to Ngun Ngun Circuit.
  • Rock Climbing: The Glasshouse Mountains are a popular spot for rock climbing, with a range of routes to suit both beginners and experienced climbers.
  • Abseiling: Take in the stunning views as you descend down the side of one of the mountains.
  • Camping: There are a number of campgrounds in the area where you can pitch a tent and enjoy the great outdoors.

Getting There

The Glasshouse Mountains are located approximately 70 kilometres north of Brisbane. You can reach the area by car in around an hour, or by taking a train to Beerwah and then catching a bus to the mountains.

When to Visit

The Glasshouse Mountains can be visited year-round, although the best time to visit for hiking is during the cooler months between April and September. Be aware that the area can become quite busy during school holidays and on weekends, so plan your visit accordingly.
