Distinguished and Famous people from Glasshouse Mountains
⚓ Matthew Flinders and Bungaree
Matthew Flinders visited the Glass House Mountains area during the Norfolk voyage of 1799, accompanied by the Aboriginal intermediary and navigator Bungaree. Flinders climbed Mount Beerburrum during the expedition, which investigated coastal waters and possible river entrances. Sunshine Coast heritage records trace this journey through the region. Bungaree contributed to a voyage along country already known and occupied by its Traditional Owners. The expedition’s route is commemorated through the region’s 1799 heritage trail.
